Absolutely, those seals need to be spotless or else they will leak.

I used a PVC pipe connector as a sliding hammer with the old seal as a
buffer when I installed the new seals. Helps keep them straight, better
than a drift pin.

Keep your work surface CLEAN, it makes a difference.
