Here's my two cents...
1) A full tank of gas limits condensation buildup in the tank, even more
important when temperatures vary.
2) Sta Bil or seafoam treatment to keep the fuel stable longer
3) Drain the carbs before parking, I do this by simply turning off the fuel
about a half mile from home and then running it dry.
4) A battery tender is an option, but I don't recommend it unless you are
parking it for more than 20 days at a time. There's a trick to determining
whats right here, you do not want your voltage dropping below 12.4 volts, its
my understanding that at that point you may have lost half your CCA or cold
cranking amps. deep charging cycles can be hard on the battery, one tip is to
minimize the discharge by not letting it go too long without recharge. Letting
your battery die is the worst thing you can do to it. Secondly fast charging
afterwards is equally as hard, if you do let a battery die, the safest way to
bring it back is to trickle charge it back. I've learned these tips partly by
talking with technicians, and in part by having one of my responsibilities be
maintaining a 20 ton battery plant at my office. Frankly I will ride at least 5
days in December and January and I think that bridges my tender need, so far
anyway.
