I'm not the least bit hesitant about letting others know when I meet
presumptuous and/or arrogant salespeople! I have, over the past several
yes, entered Kit's Camera Shops (owned by Ritz) in the Sacramento
(California, USA) area. Without a single exception, I have been treated
like a dolt who shouldn't even be allowed to own a camera. I have often,
when inquiring about newly announced equipment, been told, "They're in the
warehouse; if you want to see one, you'll have to pay for it first." When
informed that I have no intention of buying anything sight-unseen, they
appear to resent my uncooperative attitude. I have had them try to sell me
whatever they are pushing at the moment without any regard for my wants or
needs. I had one of them try to tell me that a second-line Pentax with one
of their proprietary lenses was just as good or better than my F4s with a
Nikkor 35-70 f/2.8. I have seen them tell others that a Hasselblad is an
outdated and inferior camera. They called my M6 a point-and-shoot. They
must take classes in rudeness, arrogance and obstinance. They are well
versed in bait-and-switch tactics, exercising them up to and just short of
violating the law. They still get some money from me because they still
have the best prices around on Fuji color print film. But I wonder how
much they have lost to me - and to others - in major sales because of their
attitudes.
