I would like to see the 20-35/2.8 in the $500 range as well, heck even for
$1000 I might consider it. Its just not cost effective. However, the AF-S
might not be a bad idea for a couple of reasons. Turning that screw drains
batteries quickly. The 20-35 is a big lens with heavy glass elements which is
not a quick AF'er. AF-S or at least an AF-I version would improve
performance. Then for it to be quite could be useful for us news guys.

Here I'm going to argue with you. Shooting sports, like basketball in poorly
lit gyms requires either faster film than is available or faster glass. I can
shoot basketball with an 85 1.4 at ISO 800 where as I have to shoot ISO 3200 if
I use my 80-200 F2.8 to get the same shutter speed (in my case about 1/250).
This means that if I shoot ISO 3200 film, I can get 1/1000 shutter speed which
freezes the action better. However the 85mm F1.4 D while fast, isn't as fast
as I would like it because the glass is so big. An 85 mm F1.4 AF-S would find
its way into my bag for covering hoops.

While that would be a nice feature, its not in the "Digital Back" for the F5
subject. Lets hope this new F5/F100 Digital SLR will be worth it!
