What are the drawbacks of using an SU-4 to trigger your off-camera flash,
other than losing monitor pre-flashes? Given the cost of SC-* cords, it
seems like it's more economical to buy an SU-4 if you want to use your
Speedlight more than ten feet from the camera body. Plus with an SU-4 I
can use the built-in flash on my N70, which is a pretty nice fill-flash.
I'm not likely to use an off-camera flash in a situation where someone
else's flash would trip the slave.

Does the diffuser that comes with the SU-4 extend the built-in flash
coverage out to, say, 20mm? I'm interested in using the built-in to fill
with a bounced SB-28 for indoors crowd shots.

Does no one make knockoffs of Nikon flash synch cords? I don't see that
there's anything proprietary about a flash cord, or an electronic release
for that matter. At the prices Nikon charges for these you'd think someone
would be producing copies at a fraction of Nikon retail.

How useful is an SB-23 in a multi-flash setup if you can't adjust its
output? I was thinking it would be nice to pick up a used one as a
low-profile, handy fill-flash in lieu of the rather more expensive SB-27,
and also use it as a second flash. In most situations can't you adjust the
throw almost as well by moving the flash back, since it's a pretty weak
throw to begin with?

Thanks for any tips.
