The very same happened to me about two or three times during the last 3 years.
One way to solve the problem was to remove the batteries and put them back
in after 20 or so hours....
A Nikon rep told me, that this may happen because of dirty contacts between
body and mf-26. So he cleaned them and since then i don't have any
problems...
