Some confusion has been expressed about Dynamic AF in the F100 lately. I
can understand the confusion as the manual doesn't explain it very well. I
have found some more details in the brochure "Nikon F100 Technical Guide" -
on the back it says: "Printed in Japan (9812/A) Code No. 8CE43003".

Closest-subject-priority Dynamic AF (default in Single Servo AF). The focus
point is selected automatically. As the name suggests the point with
closest subject is selected. The focus point is not shown in the
viewfinder.

Dynamic AF (default in Continuous Servo AF and the way the F5 works). The
user selects a focus point that is used for the initial focusing. If later
focus is lost the other points are searched for an object at the same
distance (see the search sequence in the table bellow).

The guide doesn't say whether the sequence is used with
closest-subject-priority or not, but I doubt it. Anyway it works very well!

selected
point 2nd 3rd 4th 5th
Center bottom top left right
Bottom center top left right
Top center bottom left right
Left center bottom top right
Right center bottom top left

Hope this helps,
Peter
