As for certs, I have not needed certs to find employment.

It looks like Books a Million needs a perl guy/gal.

The good news is knowing c and a scripting lang (perl is good enough) and
unix are still very marketable skills.
It might not hurt to brush up on android and the happenings in perl 6.
Also what databases do you know?

While NoSQL has a lot of hype behind it, being familiar with at least a
hello world couchdb or mongodb might not hurt either.

It's a tough market, but not an impossible one.
