You might want to look deeper into that. While the webserver that VMware installs gives you access to some of the admin functions related to power, suspend, reset, and configuration, the webserver itself does not give the console access. It is actually the same thing that has been around in all the server versions of the software. It runs on a different port and is available with the older tools too.
