I never said that; I said it _inhibits_ the distribution. I never said
it wasn't possible. I personally worked at a company where the lawyer
said, "no, no way can you include a tar file of Ghostscript with your
software package with that license (GPL)". He's a lawyer, so I'm going
to have to hold his opinion higher than yours (unless you're a
lawyer). I've heard similar stories from other people. Obviously some
people don't have this problem; I don't know what they did different
than us.
FWIW, I _did_ look at Sun's web page, and the only instance I could
find of them bundling GNU tools with products was for their embedded OS
ChorusOS, which I thought they bought from someone else. AFAIK no
GPL-ed code ships with Solaris, but I'd be interested in hearing
otherwise (I know that Sun and other vendors occasionally put out
"freeware" CD's, but I have always noticed that they make sure that
they are distinct from the base OS).
However, I agree this thread is getting out of hand, so this is my last
message on this topic.
