This one may possibly be the safest. Note that when you copy lines from the
forum, possibly a space character will be appended to each line. Remove those
from the criteria.

Perhaps the best way to achieve this currently, is mark all your files
themselves
as read-only, select them and open then in or drag them to Notepad++. Because
the files are read-only, their buffers will also be read-only. You can undo
both by selecting Clear read-only flag. Both the file itself and the buffer
will no longer be read-only then. The bad thing, in my opinion, is, you can't
check the file itself to be read-only again from within Notepad++.

What exactly are you trying to tell?
You accidently closed Notepad++, but you want to be able to close it to the
tray???
Do you mean anything similar as other Close to tray requests posted before?
If so, reply to those threads to not start the same discussion all over again
unnecessarily.

If Notepad++ is not that good, then why do you abuse this forum to talk about
the Olympic Games and China at all?
Don, perhaps you favor this discussion, but I ask you to remove this thread
totally and also other threads that have nothing to do with Notepad++.

Although I agree that there should be more freedom for all Chinese people, I
highly doubt the boycotting of the Olympics by a few people (compared to the
10000's who would go) would do ANY good to China's human rights status.

The initial FIND cannot be recorded in a macro, because macros record only
keystrokes
to the editor, Scintilla commands, and (some, but not all) menu commands, but
they do not record keystrokes or mouse clicks to any of the dialogs such as
the Find dialog.
Macros can, however, record the F3 (Find Next) command. So for some purposes,
you can prepopulate the Find dialog with the desired strings/settings and close
the dialog before recording a macro that includes F3. If you're playing back
the macro immediately, then no further work is needed. If you're playing back
the macro some arbitrary time in the future, and the Find dialog's values have
changed in the meantime, then you'll have to repopulate the Find dialog once
again before playing the macro.
Regards.
Greg

Okay . . . whoever removed the hex button put it back. I miss it, and I cant
figure out how to do what it did with out it there.

Maybe it disappeared for a reason. Check former messages about the Hex Editor.

Hum, well I do not agree with previous answers ;)
Tab width depends on user choice. Say I use a 4-space tab, and you a 6-space
tab. When you'll get my code, perfectly fiting into my 80-char wide screen,
it won't fit into yours for the large lines! Although I really understand what
you mean about counting and sorting, I think my complaint is different, it's
just about line width. Tab doesn't have a standard width, so I'm afraid we won't
ever solve this problem. Actually, tabs do not even have a fixed width but
brings
you to the next virtual column start.
So there my not be any solution for nicely limiting a line width to 80 chars
as long as it will contain tabs.
And changing the tabs into spaces won't help as I need to get tab at the end ;)

Hmm... Interesting.
Jens, could you check the modification ?
If you're ok with that, then I will provide the fixed HexEditor plugin binary
for testing.
In the case that the bug is really fixed, and there's no regression, I'll
reintegrate
HexEditor into Notepad++.
Next Notepad++ release is in 1 week.

1. when coding Python, if i press enter to move a line down further it changes
the indentation according to whatever code block is directly above it, even
if it's outside of that code block. it's really annoying.
2. when trying to 'save as' and save with a .py extension, it always saves it
with an extension of .rb or something like that instead, so i have to make a
new file outside of notepad++ with the .py extension and then load it in
notepad++
