Thx Jeremy. That works! I guess I just needed more encouragement to RTFM. I'm a 
noob at ntopng and assumed nprobe was required. 

I now have a Raspberry Pi using the latest ntopng to monitor my home network 
(approx 25 devices :-). It consumes approx 3W and is using approx 10% CPU and 
memory. Now onto squid and onion.

Incidentally I'm just setting the IP and the interface. Seems to work fine. 
Great graphs/info.

as an fyi, I span ports right into ntopng without having to go through
netflow.  whats the startup commands that you are using?
