You don't sound stupid.

There are those who would suggest limiting air travel (the freedom of
movement) to prevent something like this.

There are those who would say put cameras everywhere in airports, airplanes,
etc. (freedom of privacy) to prevent something like this.

There are those who would like to outlaw gun (right to bear arms) in order
to prevent something like this.

They want to sacrifice all the personal freedoms so they can feel more
secure.  And my own personal opinion is that it is absolute lunacy to think
like that.  For example.  Would you be willing to allow the government to
put a camera in every room in your home in the name of state security?  That
is giving up your right to personal privacy just so that you might feel more
secure.
