Yes XP will NOT support software RAID.  You have to remember that XP is strictly and only a DESKTOP operating system.  NOT a server operating system.  The next Windows server operating system will be Windows 2002 Server, Windows 2002 Advanced Server, and Windows 2002 Datacenter Server, as indicated in press released from Microsoft.

Sorry for all the caps, but it seems like some people are assuming that XP will be branded on the server products as well, and that’s just not the case.

Remember:

Windows XP = the next version of Windows 2000 Professional and Windows ME.

Windows 2002 = the next version of Windows 2000 Server (in its various flavours).

Let's back up a minute. Does this mean that Win XP won't support Raid-1? I find that had to believe since most of my server have mirrored OS drives and I would be very uncomfortable with anything else.

XP does not support it, but Windows 2002 Server (Advanced, Datacenter, etc.) will.

I'm somewhat familiar with the Pro's and Con's, but thanks for the info :o) I also know the procedure for disk mirroring, I just needed to know if XP supports it as W2k Pro does not.

Thanks again!

Warning: If you want disk mirroring (or any software RAID under W2K) you HAVE to use dynamic disks, and once they're dynamic there's NO going back.  Your familiar disk utilities may no longer work, and you have now forsaken partitions for volumes.  Good luck. ;)

Fire up Computer Management (from Administrative Tools, or right-click on My Computer and pick Manage), and click on Disk Management.  In turn, right click on the hard drives you want to mirror and select "Upgrade to Dynamic Disk...".  Once your disks are dynamic, right click on the simple volume you want to mirror, select "Add Mirror..." and follow the wizard.  Remember that you can only mirror simple volumes, not a spanned volume or similar.
