I think it's more of a function of the SE than age-related. Also, sometimes
technology moves in a way that causes some to lose interest.

Sometimes interest changes too, when I was younger I was all over the various
chipsets, CPU's, etc (lol, like 386SX or DX!), and over time I've become far
less "latest hardware" aware than "latest ability to do something new". The
only time I do much on the hardware side is when I need to make a
recommendation, I spend a day or two getting up to speed on the latest hardware.

I generally behind on mobile devices and it's about time for me to pick my
first smartphone, so the OT Droid 3 conversation has been a great read.

I don't know if it's a question of age or if some older SEs just don't keep up
with the changes. I've been in IT for almost 20 years (wow, that sounds like a
long time) and the company I'm with is currently migrating to Exchange 2010,
virtual machines, and upgrading our storage. I'm involved with all three
projects. I don't have the latest certifications, but I attend training when
available, read, and ask lots of questions!

Age Discrimination in IT: I have read several articles online that states that
age Discrimination in IT is more prevalent than in other fields. Question, do
you find this true or false? If you find it true how do you handle it?

I am a former NT System Administrator that was semi-retired and that wants to
return to the IT field after a 10 year absence. Financially, I do not need to
work but want to. I feel that the fact my health at 52 is excellent, am at the
right weight etc, will be a plus in my favor.
