The first Word for Windows wasn't great, but it was a heck of a lot better than WordPerfect for Windows and that ushered in a MAJOR shift in market share that WordPerfect just never recovered from.
Then of course getting sold to Novell and later Corel didn't help. I have to admit though, in the early Windows days my preference was for Samna/Lotus's Ami Pro. Ben M.
