Sounds like the computer has become infected. CFee From: John Aldrich [mailto:jaldr...@blueridgecarpet.com] Sent: Wednesday, February 03, 2010 8:48 AM To: NT System Admin Issues Subject: Windows 7 problem (Home user)
I am working on a computer for one of my users. It's a brand new HP running Windows 7 Home Premium and I'm having a devil of a time with it. The user complains that it suddenly started taking forever to do anything and that it can't get to the internet any more. I found he'd installed a second antivirus on top of the Norton that it came with (BitDefender, I think it was) which I finally removed after going into safe mode and running the uninstaller that I downloaded and put on a CD. That's another thing - it doesn't recognize my USB Memory stick that I tried to attach to it; at least not in normal mode. It'll show up in Safe Mode, but not normal mode. Also can't get into the Firewall settings, not even to allow a program to bypass the firewall. I've run the latest version of Vipre Rescue and installed Malware Bytes, but I can't update MB because I can't get to the internet. :( I've already tried running "netsh winsock reset" and that really didn't help anything either. Any suggestions? This is really only my second Windows 7 machine that I've laid hands on. The first one was a Windows 7 Professional that I installed on a spare box using the Release Candidate that Microsoft let anyone download and install. Thanks!
