Umm.... Context?

First off, you can control whether or not drivers are available for download
via Microsoft Update.   Better yet, you can control this through WSUS even
more easily.

Also, the drivers that are available are written by the vendors in question,
not Microsoft.  They are simply provided at Microsoft Update for convenience
to all concerned.

Some vendors tweak their nVidia-based boards making the generic drivers less
desirable, although my experience is that this has not been a real problem
in a few years.
