Hardware already has EULAs.

There are all sorts of "you agree not to reverse engineer" wording in the
fine print of the warranty of the things you purchase today.

Merely purchasing hardware that has some functionality locked is no
indication that you have been cheated or ill-treated, unless said
functionality was what you thought was included when you paid for it (and
had no reason to believe was missing).

As long as you are provided with the functionality you paid for, the ability
to easily provide you with new/enhanced functionality is immaterial.

*>>**and we've signed no agreement to that effect. *

Correct. You've signed no agreement in *any* direction, so there's really
no real grounds for a complaint unless you've been deceived in terms of what
you paid for vs what you got vs what you thought you would get for what you
paid.

The current cost of the product is due, in part, to the vendors ability to
manufacture it cheaply. If we argue to have full access to ALL the
functionality available on EACH piece of silicon, we will find that each
piece of silicon will cost more to produce, and that those costs will most
certainly be passed to us.
