In the past, after acquisitions, Microsoft has sometimes abruptly dropped support for everything but their own products. Presumably it's seen as a way to hurt the competition, but ultimately I can't speak to their motives. Great Plains is one that sticks in my mind, because it screwed a customer of mine at the time. As you point out, sometimes they don't do that. > Also -- doesn't Microsoft own a bunch of the Linux patents anyway? That depends on who you ask. A number of companies (IBM prolly being the biggest) dispute the validity of the patents. As MSB points out, it could also go in the direction of "pay your patent license, you're supported/allowed to connect/whatever". Or maybe nothing will happen. MSFT's also been more careful as they've come under increasing anti-trust scrutiny over the years. -- Ben ~ Finally, powerful endpoint security that ISN'T a resource hog! ~ ~ <http://www.sunbeltsoftware.com/Business/VIPRE-Enterprise/> ~ --- To manage subscriptions click here: http://lyris.sunbelt-software.com/read/my_forums/ or send an email to [email protected] with the body: unsubscribe ntsysadmin
