Time. Effort. Costs of tapes (especially if we keep one-to-one - i.e.,
each EOM is a separate tape, regardless of how much more can fit on
one tape). Disk space to restore onto. Other things ...

If a tape goes bad (which we've had happen), then we lose only 1 month
data. If we had multiple EOMs on one tape, losing a tape woulfd be
BAD. :-)
