Hello again Tobias and all. Bad news; I tried the newer kernel with the video adjustment removed on the pb1400; now it no longer boots past the very beginning of loading the video frame buffer default driver.
The only kernel that seems to work for me with no more than an occassional reboot problem is the 2.4.27 version, last posted in march I think after Florian put up the 2.4.30 kernel with the new gcc code. So I am back to 2.4.27. I feel as if we are like little birds with our open beeks sticking out of the nest chirping out: Tobias feed us a new kernel tweeked just right. But I am glad for the help and the use of my old and previously somewhat useless pb1400.
