I am using palm serial to mac serial cable it connects to the little round serial port on the mac.
I think that it is trying to use the same system resources that are already allocated to the keyboard or mouse, and so it freezes the system requiring reboot of the debian ppc os. I tested the cable without the pc serial to mac serial attachment and it works fine.
