Hi Vito,
the reason for the CD-W28E not working is either the firmware or the
adaptor board.
My adaptor board is the following version:
PC5 T/B 12XCDROM REV:3D
19970424 TYT
And there is a blue sticker on it saying "3D/3B".
My CD-W28E is a:
TEAC CD-W28E-093-U
MANUFACTURED JANUARY 2002
REV. C
My original drive is a:
TEAC CD-211E-008-U
MANUFACTURED JUNE 1997 A02
I don't consider serial number and barcode as important; should be
different for every drive.
The Apple model number is the same.
Relating the serial parallel port adaptors I don't recommend such a
thing because the Macintosh serial port is an RS422 and those adaptors
are made for RS232 and therefore might work or not.
I'd recommend PCMCIA parallel port cards to attach parallel port
printers to. At least the following cards should be supported by the
linux kernel (one might have to port the parallel_cs driver to PPC):
Quatech SPP-100
IOtech DBK35, WBK20A
Trans Digital Trans PC Card
I'm using an Apple Stylewriter II attached to the serial port which is
working with special drivers (I discovered that in my latest kernels
serial port support is partly broken...).
