Hi David,
  thanks for that but no joy...
The process stops always at the same point with a clang error.
Just before the clang error reported in my original email the process has
arrived at the following step:

building 'nupic.libcpp_region' extension
creating build/temp.macosx-10.6-intel-2.7
creating build/temp.macosx-10.6-intel-2.7/extensions
creating build/temp.macosx-10.6-intel-2.7/extensions/py_support
creating build/temp.macosx-10.6-intel-2.7/extensions/cpp_region
creating build/temp.macosx-10.6-intel-2.7/extensions/cpp_region/unittests

and this is part of my ENV if that helps:

PWD=/Users/giuseppetorre/nupic
LANG=en_IE.UTF-8
_system_arch=x86_64
NUPIC=/Users/giuseppe/nupic
_system_version=10.9
MK_JOBS=3
rvm_version=1.25.28 (stable)
BUILDDIR=/tmp/ntabuild

PYTHONPATH=/Users/giuseppetorre/nupic-darwin64/lib/python2.7/site-packages::/Users/giuseppetorre/nupic-darwin64/nta/eng/lib/python2.7/site-packages

thanks
/G
