GREAT EGRET BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON SANDHILL CRANE EURASIAN WIGEON AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER RUDDY TURNSTONE BAIRD’S SANDPIPER WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER RED KNOT WILSON’S PHALAROPE SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER LONG-BILLED DOWITCHER LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL FORSTER’S TERN MERLIN COMMON NIGHTHAWK Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge (MNWR) and Montezuma Wetlands Complex (MWC) ------------ 8/31: A probable WILSON’S PHALAROPE was spotted from Rt. 89 south of the Thru-way. 9/03: A WILSON’S PHALAROPE was seen in May’s Point Pool and continued to be seen through 9/06. There is not yet a report for today. 9/05: Up to 9 SANDHILL CRANES and at least as many BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS were seen late in the afternoon from the lookout on east Road into Knox-Marsellus Marsh. 9/06: A WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER was seen at the visitor’s center. An EURASION WIGEON was found at Knox-Marsellus Marsh. Both DOWITCHER species were seen at May’s Point Pool. Oswego County ------------ 9/01: 2 RED KNOTS and 2 RUDDY TURNSTONES were found at Sandy Pond along with 6 other species of shorebird. 9/05: 2 FORSTER’S TERNS were found at Sandy Pond. Also seen was a LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL. The RED KNOTS and the RUDDY TURNSTONES were still present. Onondaga County ------------ 9/02: 1 COMMON NIGHTHAWK was seen from the Temple Adath Yesherun cemetary in Syracuse. 9/05: 7 species of shorebird were seen along the west side of Onondaga Lake including 1 BAIRD’S SANDPIPER. 9/06: A MERLIN was found on East Sorrell Hill Road south of Baldwinsville. Madison County ------------- 9/04: 2 AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVERS and 2 BAIRD’S SANDPIPERS were seen at the Turf Farm on Lakeport Road. An immature LONG-BILLED DOWITCHER was found on Ditchbank Road. It was refound the following day but not on 9/06.
