Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge (MNWR) and Montezuma Wetlands Complex (MWC)

     5/6: An AMERICAN WHITE PELICAN was seen at VanDyne Spoor Road. A CERULEAN 
WARBLER was found at Howland Island.

     5/8: 3 AMERICAN AVOCETS were seen at the Visitor’s Center.

     5/9: A LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL was seen at the Visitor’s Center. A 
GRASSHOPPER SPARROW was seen on east road. 10 Shorebird species including an 
early WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER were seen from Loop Road north of Rt. 31. A 
PROTHONOTARY WARBLER was seen near the nest boxes on Armitage Road and has been 
seen almost daily since. 

     5/10: A CERULEAN WARBLER was seen on Howland Island.







Onondaga County

------------




     5/5: The adult LITTLE BLUE HERON was again seen at Hamlin Marsh on OLD 
Wetzel Road. 4 SANDHILL CRANES were seen there also.

     5/9: A LINCOLN’S SPARROW was seen in the LeMoyne college Woods in 
Syracuse.A GRASSHOPPER SPARROW was seen at the landfill from Cedar Bay Park in 
Fayetteville.

     5/10: 10 Warbler species including PRAIRIE and WILSON’S were found on the 
Perimiter Trail at Green Lakes State Park . A SANDHILL CRANE was seen at Three 
rivers WMA north of Baldwinsville. A SEMI-PALMATED PLOVER was seen at the 
Gerber Topsoil Farm in Manlius.

     5/11: 17 WARBLER species including 4 CAPE MAYS were found at Three 
RiversWMA north of Baldwinsville. 11 species of Warblers including a 
GOLDEN-WINGED were seen at Hamlin Marsh on Old Wetzel Road. 2 SANDHILL CRANES 
were seen also.







Derby Hill Bird Observatory

------------




     Cold weather and north winds made for a disappointing week at Derby. Only 
642 raptors were counted. One GOLDEN EAGLE was seen.







Oswego County

------------




     5/6: A PIPING PLOVER was again seen at the Sandy Pond outlet. 2 SANDHILL 
CRANES were seen in flight at the intersection of Rt. 264 and Rt. 481 north of 
Phoenix

     5/7: A BLACK TERN was seen with Common Terns at Phillips Point on Oneida 
Lake. 

     5/10: A GRASSHOPPER SPARROW was heard on Bishop Road north of Pulaski.

     5/11: 11 species of Warblers including a PRAIRIE were seen at Sunset Bay 
Park on Lake Ontario in Scriba. An early WILLOW FLYCATCHER was seen at Phillips 
Point on Oneida Lake.







Cayuga County

------------




     5/8: A RED-HEADED WOODPECKER continues at Fair Haven state park near the 
lower level camps.







Madison County

------------




     5/6: A PHILADELPHIA VIREO was seen at the Madison Street Impoundment north 
of Hamilton.

     5/7: A rare for our area YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER was seen and photographed 
on Ditchbank Road north of Canastota. 

     5/8: An ORCHARD ORIOLE was seen on Ditchbank Road.

     5/10: A WILSON’S PHALAROPE was seen on Ditchbank Road.

     




Oneida county

------------




     5/6: A PINE SISKIN was seen at the Spring Farms Nature Sanctuary south of 
Clinton.







Extralimital

------------




     A very rare for upstate BLUE GROSBEAK has been seen numerous times this 
week at the Seneca Meadows Landfill in Seneca Falls. Special permission is 
needed to enter the facility. So far all who asked were granted entry and 
guided to the bird’s location. The facility deserves our thanks for their 
cooperation.
