July 13, 2020

Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge (MNWR) and Montezuma Wetlands Complex (MWC)

     7/17: A BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER was seen at Mays Point Pool. A PEREGRINE 
FALCON and a BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON were seen along the Wildlife Drive.

     7/19: A LEAST BITTERN was found at Tschache Pool.

     7/20: A LEAST BITTERN was found at Howland Island. 3 SANDHILL CRANES 
including a fledgling, 3 BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS and 2 SHORT-BILLED 
DOWITCHERS were all spotted from East Road. 9 species of shorebirds including 3 
STILT SANDPIPERS were all seen from VanDyne Spoor Road.







Cayuga County

     7/18: 2 RED-HEADED WOODPECKERS were seen on Cayuga Street in Fair Haven.







Onondaga County

------------




     Up to 5 SEDGE WRENS are being heard and sometimes seen in the big fields 
section of 3 Rivers WMA in Baldwinsville. Since this is a sensitive species in 
our area birders are asked to not stress these birds. Stay on the road when 
birding. Do not play recordings to get responses. Lets give these special birds 
a chance to nest.

     7/14: 2 CLAY-COLORED SPARROWS were found at Green Lakes State Park. They 
were relocated again on the 15th.

     7/15: 3 RED CROSSBILLS were heard and seen again at Morgan Hill State 
Forest and were noted through the 18th.

     7/19: an early COMMON LOON was seen on Oneida Lake from Oneida Shores 
State Park.







Oswego County

     7/15: A RED-HEADED WOODPECKER was seen at 3 Mile Bay on the north shore of 
Oneida Lake.

     7/18: A fledgling PIPING PLOVER was seen at the  Sandy Pond inlet to Lake 
Ontario.

     7/20: A BRANT was seen at the Sandy Pond Outlet on Lake Ontario. Also seen 
were a PIPING PLOVER and a SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER.







Madison County

     7/19: 6 shorebird species including LESSER YELLOWLEGS were seen on 
Ditchbank Road north of Canastota.







Oneida County

-------------




     7/14: A LEAST BITTERN was seen at the Utica Marsh WMA.

     7/16: A WHIP-POOR-WILL was again heard from Preston Hill Road north of 
Oneida Lake.

     7/18: A RED-HEADED WOODPECKER continues at Verona Beach State Park.
