According to my experience birding on Eastern Long Island,in the past Turkey Vultures have been fairly rare. However yesterday I saw a flock of 9 Vultures over the farm fields off Edwards Ave. in Calverton. I took several pictures as they circled around and moved gradually north. Do Turkey vultures usually fly directly north as they migrate, or do they occasionally stay a while, circle and hover, as these did, slowly working their way North? Just wondering if they might be staying on Long Island for a while. Thanks for your comments. Andy Murphy --
