Recently we were made aware that Google was slapping us for duplicate
content, due to a typo in some bits of code...
Now, it's a bit late to erase the damage (although the typos has been
fixed), but on the advise of a specialist, we are trying to force Google's
index to dump the incorrect links, and update with only corrected links.
Here's the issue... the entry in .htaccess that should trigger a 301
redirect-&-update isn't doing it's job...
Code is:
RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} ^.*/reviews/*
RewriteRule ^(.*)/reviews/(.+) http://www.thesite.co.nz/review/$1
[R=301,L]
Theory:
If the request has the word "reviews" (plural), it should be rewritten
as "review" (singular) and send a 301 header back at Googlebot to process.
Result:
Sweet Fanny-Adams
Any help would be appreciated... I'm almost ready to sign up for a
subscription of Rogain! I've had to grow a beard just to give me something to
rip out in frustration.
Cheers...
