Sean: Well said.

IMHO the Club would be doing itself and the cycling community in Ottawa a
disfavour by going ahead with these new rules. As a club, we should be reaching
out to the cycling community and in doing so provide an open forum where people
can discuss issues of interest. Knowing that somehow there is a filter and
potential for censorship diminishes the sense of openness and creates distrust
and disharmony in our community of cyclists.

We all appreciate the fact that the level of debate on this forum has been
sometimes pretty bad. As well, I suspect that anybody who has been on Board has
at one time or another taken a lot of needless abuse. Being on the Board is
probably a thankless task. As users of this list we should all do our part to
make sure that the information passed here is relevant and considerate of our
fellow club members and other list users, irrespective of the views they might
hold.

During the past week I was reminded of a lecture during my university days about
the introduction of the Gutenburg press and how this new means of distributing
information posed a major challenge to the then established order. No doubt the
issues raised here over the last week are being faced by probably every other
major volunteer organization in the country. As a community of cyclist, let's
rise to the challenge. When cycling we try to keep our wheels out of the
gutter, let's do the same here with how we treat each other. That's my 2 cents.

BTW Sean, how is the new carbon fibre Trek?
