I am pretty convinced that the property was sold by Caltex. Residents in Donne Street have been approached by the developers of the old Garage already. I would suggest asking Donne Street residents for the developers details. Paddy Chapple

I need help in getting hold of Caltex, they are blocking my mail. I will forward the emails to you that I have sent to the building inspector and I have copied Marc Turok and Stephen Mayers of the Heritage Society, so it would have further impact if OBSID could also respond/react to it. Is there any chance you could subtly get some photographs of the area. I am too conspicuous in that area. If anyone has experience in tackling corporations please let me know otherwise I will write and see what I can do. I have also found out who owns the property where the squatter camp is in Polo Road. It is the people who own the first two houses in Donne Street. It is probably best to ask the building inspector to deal with this one unless anyone has any other suggestions regarding that. I don't know how long it has been abandoned now, but there are squatters living in the buildings. I doubt if they have running water so one can only imagine what it looks like in there. We also had reports of people sleeping in the huge petrol holding tanks which have been removed from the ground and are on top. We found a black male in there who had put newspaper on the windows as curtains, and he was very aggresive towards us. Then walking back down Polo Road, we had another look at the little plot wedged between the Caltex garage and the first houses on Donne Street from Polo Road side, opposite 65 Polo Road as per map below, there is a now sizeable squatter camp that has been there over the years. I don't know who owns the property but those shacks did not get passed by any building inspector. I might bet on that. Diagonally over the road from there,on the corner of Polo and Main Roads, is a block of flats above the Duchess clothing store. This block of flats is renowned for drug dealers I heard recently. I know this is not a crime situation yet but it certainly is a fertile breeding ground for one and has the potential of another Trump Towers. Do we want that? I don't think so, as of this date, Trump Towers is still a problem that we don't seem to be able to get rid of. Does anyone have any idea what we can do and how to go about it? -- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- OPS [Obsid Public Safety] - 24/7 control room TEL: 021-447-1066 or 072-063-1653 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- EMERGENCIES: 10111 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ONW email: o...@obs.org.za<mailto:o...@obs.org.za> WEB: www.obswatch.org.za<http://www.obswatch.org.za> FACEBOOK: facebook.com/obswatch ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Other Useful Obs Numbers: obs.org.za/obsdir You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups The Observatory Neighbourhood watch group.
