Colin
I have similar requirements and have recently been down the route you are
talking of. I bought a 466MHz Celeron with 8.4 G HD, 64MB Ram etc I
initially put a dual boot NT4 / Win95 setup on it but canned it in the end
as I do so much BP7 code that I found the dual booting a pain as I can
typically be developing a Delphi app in parallel with the DOS app so NT
didn't cut it as I couldn't debug serial port stuff and hardware code in NT
(although you can access COM1,2 directly if you wish - but I couldn't get to
COM3,4 etc) So I've ended up with a good solid install of Win95 (first
version) with SP1, Winsock2, DUN updates. This seems to be an ideal setup
for my needs and shpould also suit you. You mention a crippled DOS in Win98
but I think that its similar to Win95 and should work just as well.
Hope this helps.
Paul
