In the perfect world, it is not responsibility for a programmer job to
participate software license issue and face some hard decision, i.e. lose
money income , lose job, etc. That is the reason I love Linux and open
source software.

I have worked out what the problem for me is.

Many companies I have worked for over the years
have been using illegal software. When this is
pointed out to them they have asked me to "fix" the
problem and make sure that they comply with
licensing requirements. They never pirated software
as a money saving endeavour. They had many business
areas where they could save money IF they chose to
break the law but never did. As soon as they found out
that they were doing something wrong they rectified it.

It was NEVER difficult to convince them that they should
do the right thing.

This time I just assumed that I was some how lacking in
the way I was approaching them - that is not the case. It
is their attitude which is the problem. I know that I have
made it more than clear that they should comply with
licensing requirements. They don't want to do it because
they don't want the cost.

Chrissy.
