Hi,
After starting this interesting conversation I stop using outlook and
periodically logged into xtra's web mail. From 10:30 to 3:50pm I had no
emails in my inbox then all of a sudden I had in excess of 30. The order
they were in the inbox was random and the times were right through the day.
As I am silly enough to use xtra it looks like I may be packing my bags and
changing camps.

Subject: [DUG-Offtopic] Random mail message order

[Reply]

Hi all,

We are using the Mailman mail server, and the result you see is primarily
due to the vagaries of Internet connectivity, not the mailserver itself.

When a message comes in to the server, it is despatched to all email
addresses registered on the List. However if it meets with a difficulty
connecting with your mail server, then that message gets queued to be dealt
with 'x' minutes later. If a subsequent message to the list gets sent ( the
reply to the first one), and the link to your mail server is now working,
then the second message will be delivered first.

Unavailibility of a mail server can be due to many reasons - the link
itself, the mail server being overloaded ... whatever, there can be many
causes.

Can you not order your email messages by the date time stamp, to get them
put in proper order? Or is that date time received??

regards

Gary

 | Hi,
 | Is it my machine or a mail server somewhere causing the mail from the
list
 | to arrive in a completely random order. Some messages can be up to 12
hours
 | late, I see answers before the question. It makes the list very hard to
 | follow.
