Yes Mr. Grisanzio, we all heard that many times:
Sun: "We all are enthusiasts and together we gladly constitute the
OpenSolaris community. A few of us just happen to be working for Sun.
Others work for other employers. That's life. Contributor- or CC-
grants have nothing to do with who is paying for it. OpenSource stands
for just that, open src, whether paid or not, etc. foo xyz."
So Jim, you are right with the first sentence:
> Conversations between Sun employees in the community and non-Sun community
> members take place all the time at many levels, and those conversations will
> obviously continue -- and they don`t need the permission of the Charter or
> the Constitution.
But I do not fully understand what exactly you mean with the rest:
> There is no reason to centralize communication channels
> with only the OGB. The board is one communication channel, sure, but it`s

There is very much of a reason, less fog please. Thanks.
Because otherwise the OGB (and with it the community) will always be
doomed to stay a teeth-less tiger, some cosmetic formation that only
serves for (Sun's) marketing purposes. {On a remote side-note, not
implying that Sun is a dictatorship-regime, just for illustrated
comparison: Be aware that most dictatorship regimes also use to call
themselves "Democratic Republic of ..." with (fake) elections. This is
part of how those regimes could come to - and maintain - power, and
how they keep the masses calm and equalized.}
Here is an example for the invalidity of your second statement: I
assume you are still a SMI employee and your job is to work here. To
represent your employer's biz interests. So what is taking place
between you and me just right now could then be considered part of the
way of that multi-layered Sun<--->Community communication which you
described.
Do I have *any* binding power to influence Sun's decisions??
Does the current OGB have any more power?
Wait a minute, that's not directly what a free OSS community needs or
even wants.
Thank you.
With respect.
