I believe culture is largely based on distributed grass roots activities, not on centralized hierarchical management structures. The trick is finding the balance between the two but also trusting enough to let go to see what actually works. I don't think we are destroying anything at all. My whole career on OpenSolaris has been to build community, not destroy it, so I wouldn't be suggesting this if I thought otherwise. That doesn't make me right; it just means I believe what I'm saying. :-) We are simply trying to make things easier so more innovative activities can grow while also maintaining enough structure for basic operations.
