It seems to me you want some sort of logo to differentiate
your D20 games from the D20 games of people who don't quite
"measure up."
WotC can do that with their D&D trademark and don't want
to dilute it by letting others use it. They get to control
the content, fees, and quality of the offerings under that
trademark. And it is perfectly understandable they don't
want others representing themselves with the D&D trademark.
It's conceivable that if there was a huge demand by the
gaming community to have some more differentiation between
D20 games and "good" D20 games then WotC can introduce a
certification process for a more restricted logo. This
is expensive, time consuming and controversial. I just
don't see the need at this stage. I'd much rather WotC
focused on the quality and timeliness of the deliverables
they have already announced.
