For the most definitive answer on this.  This is what Mr. Dancey said when 
asked the question straight out.  Just don't communicate the following 
notions in your text: a) "roll x dice to generate ability scores", or b) 
"when a character reaches x experience points, he becomes "y" level" and you 
should be all right.

That is really all there is to this...
