        They are not incompatible. section 3.1.2 is describing the 
effects of earning experience and advancing a level (i.e. you now 
have a number of development points to spend on skills, you can 
now increase one stat by one point, select another Feat, etc...), 
whereas in detailing a new profession, you would provide 
something like a list that gives the profession information for each 
level (unique to that profession). 

        You would NOT include the normal Feat advancement, nor the 
stat advancement on those charts (unless you are giving feats or 
stat increases in addition to those normally gained by going up a 
level).
