I've been fighting with this ever since I first heard about the OGL, and
ever since there was the announcement of the SRD. After having left the
lists for a few months, I recently checked out the SRD, and saw that some
chapters were officially released. My problem is that I'm horribly confused.

This is what I want to do:

  - create a computer game.
  - said computer game will create characters.
  - said computer game should have *some* compatibility
with 3E/d20. i'm *not* looking for full rule compliance,
or to use the whole rules engine. only part of the system
would be used (char. stats, monster stats, combat) -
some rules are purely irrelevant in my system.

Let me rephrase:

  - it's not important that the game fulls under the d20 logo.
  - the game code will be open sourced. so will all data.
  - it's not important that the game follows everything in the
SRD to perfectness. somethings just won't translate.

I want the ability to:

  - use the six basic stats.
  - use the basic combat system.
  - be able to use srd skills, monsters, spells, etc. whilst
    further embellishing them myself.

If I can't have the above, then:

  - i want the ability to have an ingame converter - where
someone could design a d20 element, run it through a
magical converter and spit it out for my game.

What are my options, choices, and problems?
Thanks for any comments you can give me.
