We certainly don't support gcc 3.4!!!

You'll need to check gcc 4.1, it might work? 

Both of those are very old (early 2006). I don't think we claim compatibility 
with anything older than gcc 4.4. 

And starting with OIIO 1.7 (the current master), we assume that 4.8 is the 
minimum, although we have not yet purposely broken it for older versions, but 
we could at any time.
