Hello, I have scanned about 200 of the 845 messages on radio
messeges. I am just looking for additional things I might need to
learn beyond me. I bought an orig radio off ebay for $180 bucks,
from I believe a 56, quite a fight starting at $30, but I finally
won, although its workability was not clear. I finally set things up
and after connecting antenna, speaker, via my 12 volt convertor----
would you believe it WORKS !!!!! I bought it gambling on its work or
not working, how lucky am I. The vibrator works, the old tubes glow,
I would replace old tubes for new, but not yet have looked online to
find new, but no need since it plays well. A bit disapointing to me
at 1st was my 12 volt convertor breaker tripping, yet only a 2.5 amp
convertor, and reading the radio book and tying in my ammeter, it
draws about 1.8, then up to aprox 2.6 after warm up. No problems.
Tied it straight to my battery outside, and got a clear signal !!!!!
I sat there a bit listening to WSM-650 Nashvile, the grand ole opry,
the radio works great !!!!!!!!!!
Started the truck and signal was still clear, but maybe lost a little
due to some noise. Anyway this is just it sitting outside the truck
on the concrete at near freezing. Once I'm fully installed I will
have to see how things are.
Now that I have an internal regulated alternator, wonder about
suppresion for radio noise. I won't know for sure till I'm done in
a day or two, I might not even need to look into this, but why wait
to ask questions. My Malory Unilite distributor (don't have its plug
wire info in front of me), might generate noise. I have the radio
service manual, but it doesn't give me any capacitor values. I
believe they are electrolytic for suppresion, I would think so
anyway. Wonder what the microfarad values would be ?????? If I knew
I could probably just go to the Radio Shack and pick some up. Anyone
know of the microfarad values used for this ??? The original radio
manual shows caps tied at the voltage regulator gen, coil wire 12
volts, generator armature line. Now with an alternator with internal
regulator, I don't know if suppressors are even used here, or if they
would be of any purpose. Also what about my heater fan motor, or
wiper electric motor, would I need to install caps at these points
also. Since these motors run on brushes, I'd think they probably do,
maybe someone knows more to tell me though. Any info from anyone on
this matter ??? Just finished rewiring my whole front end, and
installed a fuse block where the old voltage regulator used to sit.
With no voltage regulator, or generator, anymore, where else other
than the coil wire, or other motors, would I use caps for noise
suppresion----(if needed)?????
I might be ok anyway, but I'd like some suggestions, 2 heads are
always better than one !!!! 1959 Chevy Apache Fleetside, the Road
