Thanks wnate, not putting the cart before the horse was certainly good
advice. Here is the end story, a happy story indeed, the radio before
installing I
found the 2 pole on-off switch was defective, (one for radio on-off, the other
for dial light on-off), both poles not working. I was disapointed and
anticipated I probably would not be able to revive this old tube radio. I
straightened that out, wiring from the other indicator lamps straight to the
radio
lamp, so that the radio dial light illuminates, when the whole dash is lit.
The
other pole, I put an led switch in an indiscriminate location so that I can
turn the radio on or off as I would like. Thus the on-off defective radio
switch is now out of circuit. The left knob is used only as a volume
control---its on-off funtion is out of circuit. By the way, the volume control
works with
not a scratch or bump, like brand new for its age. I found a problem with
the radio antenna, I used it while working out of the vehicle. It was
grounding
to the front fender when I reinstalled--rendering no signal at all. I simply
bought a new antenna, and
solved that problem. Now I ride down the road and listen to my classic Chevy
Truck AM radio, without any interference or need of capacitor noise
supperession. I installed the speaker and its cage above the rear view mirror
as shown
in the manuals. This radio I have been looking for quite a few years, how
lucky can I be !!!!!! It could not be working better than a brand new radio,
for
I estimate it to be aprox 51 years of age. It came I believe out of a 56
Chevy truck I was told by the seller, they didn't know if it worked or not. So
I
bought it anyway, though gambling on if it would work or not. I am real
happy. So this evening I took the old truck out for a drive, for a good
listen
to the grand ole opry, you know AM you can hear for a long ways. I am one of
the happiest old truck owners today. Things could not have turned out better
for me. Now with deluxe heater controls, cigarette lighter, original radio,
original type turn signals, original speaker, ---- all of my dash blanker
plates
and plugs are gone, with now the visable accessorys all installed and
working, with the same appearence as they would have rolled out installed in
1959.
I am one happy camper !!!!!! Lots of thanks for your tolerencce of my
