I took my dash out of the truck when I refurbished the truck. I seen the back
side and there were not holes that were filled in, plugged, etc. I have a
aftermarket heater switch that is original, for the heater and there are
others, i.e. fog lights, defroster. I see them on e-bay all the time. They
mount under the front edge of the dash. There are several holes already there
for them. Yours sounds like something someone did as a convenience. I don't
think there were lighted switches as such during the 40 series trucks.

Below my headlight switch hole are four holes. Two over two. The upper
two holes have sleaves solid riveted to the dash. Almost like a switch with a
light housing

I have an original '46 dash and several pictures if needed. Left of the
cluster is the headlight/running light switch, no other holes. Right of
the cluster, ignition switch, choke, throttle and cigarette lighter hole.
The dash was tan, but I painted it black to match the new paint scheme.

Good luck!

As real as it gets ! South Wind heaters work a treat and don't reduce fuel
economy very much .

I bet you can google or wikipedia them....

My '46 (nearly identical) didn't have a tan dashboard .

The $10.00 owner's booklet will show you what goes where on the dash , I bet
The Old Car Manual Project has good pix in the parts book section too .

> All of my interior is now painted the factory tan and Im starting to
assemble the dash and dont know the what items go in each hole as I did not
disassemble this truck. there are 4 holes on the left below the headlight
switch and then there are three holes to the right of the ignition switch hole.

> the glove box button hole is awaiting backordered parts but I know where
it goes.

> I had an interesting conversation with an elderly gent who asked if I had
a southwind heater in it, I said no. He began to tell me that it was a heater
with an igniter and actually burned fuel to create heat. I said wtf. driving
down the road with a fire going inside the truck on purpose??? is this real???
