I took my dash out of the truck when I refurbished the truck. I seen the back side and there were not holes that were filled in, plugged, etc. I have a aftermarket heater switch that is original, for the heater and there are others, i.e. fog lights, defroster. I see them on e-bay all the time. They mount under the front edge of the dash. There are several holes already there for them. Yours sounds like something someone did as a convenience. I don't think there were lighted switches as such during the 40 series trucks. Merlin

Left of the cluster is the headlight/running light switch, no other holes. Right of the cluster, ignition switch, choke, throttle and cigarette lighter hole. The dash was tan, but I painted it black to match the new paint scheme. Good luck! South Wind heaters work a treat and don't reduce fuel economy very much . I bet you can google or wikipedia them.... My '46 (nearly identical) didn't have a tan dashboard . The $10.00 owner's booklet will show you what goes where on the dash , I bet The Old Car Manual Project has good pix in the parts book section too . -Nate Dave wrote: > > All of my interior is now painted the factory tan and Im starting to assemble the dash and dont know the what items go in each hole as I did not disassemble this truck. there are 4 holes on the left below the headlight switch and then there are three holes to the right of the ignition switch hole. > the glove box button hole is awaiting backordered parts but I know where it goes. > I had an interesting conversation with an elderly gent who asked if I had a southwind heater in it, I said no. He began to tell me that it was a heater with an igniter and actually burned fuel to create heat.
