Does your multimeter measure Ohms? that is resistance. You'd use the
formula: voltage = amps x resistance (E=IR)

Do you have access to a battery charger that can switch between 12 volts and
6 volts? Hook it to the heater motor at 6 volts and read the amperage off
the charging dial.

I would just hook up the Voltage Reducer as the instructions say and try it
for a few seconds. If is a resistance voltage reducer, you won't blow it. If
the rating is wrong it'll just get hot before it is in danger of melting.
DON'T do this if the instructions say it has any transistors or
semiconductors in there.

When I needed 6 volts from a 12 volt battery, years ago, I'd drive a nail
into the lead connector that is half way between the two sets of three
cells. Don't drive it in too far. .bill in corvallis

Subject: [old-chevy-truck] voltage reducer

Hi guys.
The after market heater didn't work when I got my '52- 3100. Somewhere along
the line someone changed the system to 12V. I cleaned it up to see what
repairs were needed. I hooked it up for a split second to 12V and the motor
runs but I assume it is 6 volt.

I purchased a Voltage reducer and the instructions clearly state that I must
determine the amp rating for the accessory to make sure the reducer will do
what is needed. (the reducer is designed for 1.5 ohms at 4amp max load)

How do I determine the amp rating? Although I have a multi meter, I only
know how to read voltage or continuity. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks Ken Wagner
