Very true. But the original problem isn't reproducible for me any more. So I chalked it up to some transient issue on friday (which considering that my upgrades were working for a couple of weeks before friday AM, my office was getting ready to undergo a complete network rewhack on friday, there was some chatter about there being web proxy cache issues in front of ipkg.sfbay up until yesterday afternoon and that my workspace hadn't changed code wise other than to sync with onnv-gate that seems pretty plausible). And of course, my first upgrade attempt after rebuilding my workspace with the fix in 6974588 worked as expected.
