I asked on the mailing lists in Italian; several users upgraded 3.2.x->3.4, with the same experience as the 3.3 -> 3.4 upgrade (no issues for a slightly customized installation, profile conversion problems if many extensions are installed or heavy customizations are present).
Of course, advanced users who can customize OpenOffice significantly are also more likely to be able to deal with a corrupt profile; so, while it is clear (see links sent yesterday by Ariel) that the profile conversion fails in some cases, users who see it fail can probably handle it. But I would consider adding a remark to the 3.4.1 release notes on how to reset registrymodifications.xcu or the full profile.
