When I click on "Get more extensions online," it takes me to the Apache repository of extensions. If I click on "Dictionaries," it only shows one English US dictionary, which as a date that is older than the one that came with the computer. I'm hesitant to download an older version of a dictionary.

US English dictionary hyphenates words at the wrong place (Op-enOffice, res-ults, mathem-atics, etc.)

you could just try another dictionary from the extensions set. this one may consider such hyphenating pattern correct.
