You still haven't said what is failing. open-vm-tools is supposed to be agnostic
to the version of VMware software you're using, so I'm very surprised that you
say it works on 6.0.5 but not on 6.5.

We don't have init scripts for open-vm-tools because, as I mentioned, there
isn't a single API for which we can write those init scripts; every distro does
it slightly different, making it difficult to have one script that "blends in"
with all distros. So we leave it up to packagers to do it.
